WAS THAT YOU I SAW, LORD
Who was that I saw in that hungry
child's smile,
As I gave him my bread, he sat
for awhile,
Bitter tears disappeared as
his heart filled with joy,
Was that you I saw, Lord, when
I fed that boy.
Who was that I saw when the man
had no coat,
As I gave him my own, his eyes
seemed remote,
"You clothed me my child", he
said as he ran,
Was that you I saw, Lord, when
I clothed that man.
Who was that I saw, when in labor
I lay,
For each loving infant, in pain
I did pay,
But, I was rewarded, none like
it on earth,
Was that you I saw, Lord, when
I gave them birth.
Who was that I saw as my mom
said goodbye,
Her face glowed like sunshine
as death closed her eyes,
Then, You took her hand and
no more she would roam,
Was that you I saw, Lord, as
You took her home.
I've pondered this question,
as I near the end,
Life's trials are all over,
no use to pretend,
Reveal yourself, Lord, can't
I look on Your face,
You've never revealed it as
I've run this race.
Then, suddenly, out of nowhere,
the answer was there,
As I've searched through this
life, my burdens to bear,
Overlooking the obvious and
seeking to find,
That was you I saw, Lord, you
lived in my mind.
